BEHIND THE MUSIC

Release Date: February 14, 2020

Release Date: February 14, 2020

I began working on this song well over ten years ago.  It was one of those songs where each time I read through the lyrics; I was either adding or deleting words.  I would move lines around and sometimes erase everything entirely.  Both the storyline and title have changed numerous times.  At one point, there was mention of a horse in the song.  I liked the idea of using both the sun and moon to represent the mood of the story being told.  I have always been fascinated by the sun and moon and their relationship with one another.  From our vantage point, the moon needs the sun.  Without the help of the sun, the moon would float by unnoticed.  In return, the moon acts as a canvas for us here on earth by providing us with a perspective of the awesome power and magnificent beauty the sun has to offer.  It's a celestial companionship.

The moon can often be a romantic experience, as it was for the couple at the very beginning.  However, I also wanted it to set the stage for the darkness that was to come.  It starts off what seems to be a nice typical love song.  We hear the overwhelming love the man has for his woman.  But a dark eerie uneasy feeling starts creeping in little by little.  We start to sense his pain.  We suddenly felt sorry for him, only to be horrified by his decision making (or lack there of).  We are shocked to learn what appeared to be a beautiful love song has now become something very dark and ugly.  We are led to believe that nothing good will come of this.  The man has gone too far and now there is no turning back.  It has become tragic and sad.  But out of nowhere, a bright light appears, and the darkness has faded out of sight.  We are briefly confused (similar to waking up disoriented).  We feel a little lost, but suddenly realize what has just happened.  It was all just a bad dream.  A horrible dream!  The man wakes up to realize that the love of his life has gone nowhere.  She is right there beside him.  He has been given a vision of what his life would be like without her.  He now feels as if he has been given a second chance.  A wake-up call, of sorts.  Whatever love he felt for her before has just been multiplied a thousand times over.  His heart is overflowing in a way that he has never experienced before.

The song is about two different kinds of dreams.  There are the ones we all hope and wish for to come true in the near future, and then there are the ones that come to us while we are sleeping and have absolutely no control over.  There's the fiction and nonfiction side.  The good and the evil.  Day and night.  Happy and sad.  Love and hate.  Life and death.  Whether it's tears of joy or tears of sorrow, crying is one of the strongest and most unpredictable emotions that we possess as human-beings.  At some point we all have to deal with the highs and lows that life throws our way and sometimes the only thing left to do is cry.

Curtains open without any warning!

FYI... that is my oldest daughter Madison on the artwork for the single.
